Police crack string of church thefts in Lawrence County

LAWRENCE COUNTY ? Police believe they?ve solved a string of thefts targeting churches in Lawrence County during the month of January.

Investigators from the Indiana State Police and the Lawrence County Sheriff?s Department investigated the first burglary on Jan. 6 at Gullets Creek Baptist Church on Trogdon Lane.

A week later, investigators received complaints about similar thefts at other churches, including Fayetteville Baptist Church, Calvary Baptist Church, Hilltop Pentecostal Church, Popcorn Christian Church, Spice Valley Church of Christ and the First Baptist Church.

A coordinated investigation led police to search a home at 508 Needmore School Road in Lawrence County. Investigators said they found and recovered all items reported stolen at the churches.

On Tuesday, they arrested 25-year-old Zachary C. Stevens in connection with the thefts.
